Inspiration from Folk Art Market
I was lucky this weekend to attend a Folk Art Market where there were many things to give me inspiration when stitching. The colors, the textures and the unique styles that are used in these art forms were amazing.
This is an Arpillera, a three dimensional appliquéd picture that tells the story of life in Peru. This one is a market scene. i just finished a piece where I padded from the back which gives the impression of applique. There will be an article in the newsletter on this technique.
For you sugar skull collectors ,here are some pictures you will enjoy.
I can just see using these designs on the following canvases with ribbons, beads ,and metallic threads.

Red Tote Bag
Purses and totes are among my favorite things. I stitched this wonderful canvas and had this tote specially designed to hold my Japanese embroidery tools and thread cases. It has a variety of pockets that will be easy to access. I can hardly wait to show it off when our group stitches tomorrow!

A Southwest canvas -before and after
Here is this wonderful canvas designed by Kirk and Hamilton , two talented Brits.
It is a unique southwest design with the chilies superimposed on the gold design..
The sage green border complements but does not detract from the center design.
This piece was stitched in basket weave which allowed the design to be important
not the stitches. The perfect trim was found with the same greens and cream to
add to the edge. We finished it as a stand up as requested by this talented stitcher.
It will sit on a carved bookshelf for all to enjoy.

Pillows galore!
The colors in the Klimt design are bold and will go well with the stitcher's decor. She is busy stitching another geometric design in rich browns, rusts and
golds.

Broom Parking Class
Delightful Carolyn Hedge Baird is here this weekend for the Broom Parking Class. She is a fun and relaxed teacher with lots of great ideas .
The package of embellishments to place on the canvas was exciting to
go through and made it hard to wait to start using the ribbons, net and other goodies. If you have a chance, take one of Carolyn's classes . You will enjoy yourself and learn so much. She is coming back in early 2013 to teach another class . Details will be posted next week.

Original design by an enthusiastic stitcher
One of the best things about stitching is seeing the work of others. Today one of our customers came in to choose threads and I asked him what his latest project was. He pulled his own design out of his bag.
He had stitched southwest pottery using magazine pictures as his inspiration. He currently is working on another Southwest design. I enjoy the enthusiasm of this stitcher as well as admire that he challenges himself . He works hard on the designs and perspective Stitch on, Kevin!
